Usgbc Charlotte: Educate Builders And Contractors
Planned communities are the latest trend in urban development. These communities consciously design areas that can be used for a multitude of activities. Examples of this include residential housing near the business district. Additionally, many organizations such as the Charlotte Region Chapter of the USGBC use this purposeful design method to promote green building in the Charlotte area.
The first annual Charlotte Clean and Green is the result of the combined efforts of more than a dozen organizations across the city and county. Passive education is not the only goal of the event. Its task is to create an enjoyable and attractive setting in which you or your relations can gain knowledge concerning the necessary life changes required to keep the environment clean and the economy sustainable.
Cities and towns have been recognizing this trend, and attempting to encourage it along. This is accomplished through programs which make the public part of efforts to "green" the community. At the forefront of this effort are cities such as Charlotte,
The Appalachian State University Energy Center and Department of Technology is teaming up with the Charlotte Clean and Green to show families exciting hands on learning experiences where they can learn from real experts and staff. The topics covered will include green building as well as various renewable energy technologies. Visitors will be able to participate in learning about green tech and "touch and feel" their way to an understanding of Energy Star, lighting changes and other green topics.
Central Piedmont Community College's Center for Sustainability is committing thousands of dollars by use of their campus and facilities. Faculty and staff are the most important contributors along with the participation of the Culinary and Construction Institutes and participation from science, engineering, and IT departments. CPCC's Student Life, Marketing Team, and staff of the Futures Institute are part of the Charlotte Clean & Green Team.
LEED Charlotte workshops will be conducted by the USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter in order to help educate builders and contractors in green building technology and methods. The chapter has added a partner in the event as of late. Also, the USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter will be marketing CC&G through its contacts, both members and professional. Now qualified, the USGBC Charlotte Region will receive funds to support the Charlotte Clean and Green Event.
Charlotte has some new master planned communities on the board with mixed residential styles planned. These units consist of condominiums and closely packed residences near downtown business areas. The regional chapter of the USGBC is pushing Green building Charlotte. A significant new partner, the USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter has been a welcome addition to the program. They're planning to conduct LEED Charlotte workshops for builders in an attempt to increase green home building awareness and strategies for this region. Plus, the chapter plans to promote itself via each member and professional contact they have. The region has qualified and will get funding to support the greening program
